In times of crisis, the leader must use all his skills, know-how and his charisma to get the company out of the impasse. With the strategy to be adopted to manage the company obliges to take risks for the company and for the employees. This is why he/she must be prepared to display certain qualities.

The leader’s behaviour is the compass of success.

The ability to cope with uncertainty

Intellectual flexibility becomes a necessity. It is indispensable to ensure the development of the leader’s intelligence in difficult circumstances. Flexibility enables him to avoid all forms of stress and overwork and enables him to find a better solution to the crisis. In a crisis situation, it is the uncertainty of the next day that is at the heart of the decisions to be taken.

Listening and communication skills

Although the crisis can generate enormous overflows for the leader, this should not prevent him from communicating with his collaborators. In times of crisis, the leader must be attentive to his employees in order to motivate them to make even greater efforts to get the company out of the crisis. He/She must communicate the evolution of the situation to his employees. They need to know the effects of the efforts they have made. This is essential to strengthen the team spirit and sense of responsibility that each team member must-have.

Cooperation and solidarity

Cooperation and solidarity with the rest of the team is the corollary of the sense of listening and communication. In times of crisis as in normal times, the leader must not only lead. He/She must be the centre of the team and keeping it together and united. It is fundamental to maintain and revive team spirit. This can be manifested through freedom of speech and the sharing of good practices and know-how.

Courage and perseverance
